Scott Nuffer – Committee Chair

scott1Hi, My name is Scott Nuffer and I have the honor of being the Committee Chair for troop 184. Unlike Justin, I didn’t begin Scouts at the age of 5! I joined Cub Scouts at the age of 9 in Little Rock, Arkansas. I was in both Cub Scouts and Webelos during the next several years. When my father was shipped overseas with the military, my family moved to Michigan and I joined a local Boy Scout Troop there. The Troop was very loosely organized and there wasn’t much progress going on amongst the boys. We did manage to camp a lot, but we were not taught to be good stewards of the land we camped in, so it wasn’t a very good experience for me. At the age of 12, my family moved to California and I joined a Boy Scout Troop that was very active and had great leadership. It was an “Eagle Scout” type of troop….they encouraged the boys to progress and lead the Troop. This was the Scouting experience that helped me become the person I am today. I achieved my Eagle Scout” rank at the age of 15 on October 26th, 1977.
It is my desire to bring that same spirit of scouting that I enjoyed so much to Troop 184. I accepted the position of Committee Chair in October of 2010 and with the help of our supportive Committee we are challenging our Scouts to develop character, citizenship, and both fitness and leadership skills that will last them a lifetime. Mickie, my wife of over 28 years, has been instrumental in every success I have enjoyed. She has given me three wonderful children and is also involved with the troop, serving on the committee. When not busy with Scouts, I am employed as an Air Traffic Controller in Longmont and have been enjoying that job for over 23 years. I have taught youth in the past in Bible Study Fellowship and enjoy camping with my family when not on a Scout Campout. Both Mickie and I are NRA certified Range Safety Officers which along with Justin’s NRA certifification as a Rifle instructor we are able as a troop to plan 2 Shooting campouts a year.scott2
