Hello! I’m Jane Muhlenbruch-Yee and I serve as Advancement Chair for Troop 184. In this role I officially keep track of what the scouts are learning and doing for each rank, their service hours in the community, merit badges they have completed, and the scout activities that they have participated in. At weekly meetings the scouts sometimes see me behind a laptop computer comparing their Scout book with my records. I also provide a constant reminder that they should bring their book to each meeting!

My husband, Dan, and I have twin boys in Troop 184. Previously we were leaders of a Cub Scout Den in Pack 189 for five years. Now we participate on the Troop 184 Committee that oversees all operations of the troop. We see Boy Scouts as a way for our family to spend more time outdoors and participate in activities that we wouldn’t have dreamed up ourselves. Sometimes it takes us out of our comfort zones. It definitely has given them opportunities to try new things and have fun along the way.

For example, I’m confident that we wouldn’t have taken them canoeing and intentionally swamped their canoe. We wouldn’t have gone on several backpacking trips with one being nearly 20 miles round trip on a steep and rocky trail to Lost Lake. We wouldn’t have camped and hiked to the Pawnee Buttes or planted seedling trees at Fort Robinson. We wouldn’t have had them become proficient at shooting 22’s or buy our own firearms. We also wouldn’t have done service projects such as cleaning up trash at Lon Hagler Reservoir or ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at Christmastime. They also wouldn’t have learned about changing the oil in a car (Auto Maintenance MB), heating and bending a piece of iron at a forge (Metalwork MB), staying outside overnight without a sleeping bag (Wilderness Survival MB), and much more. With Boy Scouts we did.

In this photo I’m meeting Santa at the Larimer Co. Sherriff’s Christmas party for kids where our Troop helped with games and craft projects. I enjoy artistic projects and am a merit badge counselor for Art as well as Personal Management and Photography.
